My name is David Butler II and I work as a full-time photographer specializing in documentary style wedding and portrait photography in Connecticut and Massachusetts. I also work as a news and sports photographer for USA Today Sports and freelance for the Hartford Courant. My work has been published in newspapers, magazines, and websites around the world including Sports Illustrated Magazine & Web, ESPN The Magazine & Web, The Sporting News, USA Today, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, St. Petersburg Times, Hartford Courant and others. My work has also appeared on the walls of many wonderful clients who I thank so much for letting me into their world and giving me a front row seat to some of the most important and beautiful moments of their lives.
Where are you located? Do you charge a travel fee for weddings not in your location?
I live in Connecticut, the town of Somers to be exact :-). I don't charge a travel fee unless the wedding is over an hour away or if I need to spend the night due to distance.
How long have you been in business? How many weddings have you photographed as the main photographer?
I've been a full time photographer since 2012 and have documented hundreds weddings :-)
Describe your "style" of wedding photography.
My style is documentary with an artistic eye. Much of my current work is as a photojournalist and I use those skills capturing moments at weddings.
Do you have a studio where we can meet in-person?
I do have a studio in Somers CT where we can meet and you can view more of my work and chat about wedding plans. Or if you like we can FaceTime :-)
What are your professional degrees, credentials, affiliations? Have you taken any recent educational workshops or classes?
My professional degrees are from the school of "Self Taught" :-).... I've learned my craft from doing and from following the work of photographers like James Nachtwey, Bill Eppridge, Eddie Adams among others. I've been to many workshops and photojournalism conferences. The most noted among them was the Eddie Adams Workshop where I was a participant in 2004. Eddie Adams had passed away just a few weeks before the workshop so he was one mentor I never had the pleasure of meeting.
Is there anything else you'd like to share about yourself?
I am married with three wonderful children. :-) I love music and writing songs. Been to Nashville many times to record demos but haven't written a hit.... YET! :-)
