~ Skiing is my favorite pastime. We have two seasons here at J. La Plante Photo: wedding season and ski season.
~ One of my greatest joys in life is cracking a beer after a long wedding day.
~ I love to travel. I've been to all 50 United States and 20 foreign countries. So far...
~ My wife, Moira, and I have been together for 17 years and not a day goes by that I don't wonder just what in the hell she sees in me.
Just a few miles east of Boulder, Colorado.
A little over 250 weddings over the past 17 years.
We’re not big on taking standard, posey photos. We specialize in nontraditional wedding photography and everything you see on our website is real. Real weddings. Real couples. Real emotion. Our goal isn’t to simply take pretty pictures, but to create works of art that are unique to you and worthy of hanging above your mantlepiece. We limit our calendar to 15 weddings per year so we can pour every ounce of our blood, sweat and tears into each wedding.
Our most popular wedding package is $7,500 and includes a full day of coverage (typically 10-12 hours, but we don't limit time), two photographers, a password-protected online gallery, high-res images with the rights to print, and a photo album.
We typically like to get things started with a phone call or Zoom call. After that, breweries are our favorite meeting spots.
I have a bachelor's degree in journalism (concentration in photojournalism) from Central Michigan University.
One of my first jobs after college was for Paramount Pictures. I was fired after one day.

That confidence and Read More anxiety was delicately handled by Moira more than anyone. She was there to ask and answer every question, did an INCREDIBLE job consulting with us (particularly during the final album design call), and even came to my rescue with liquid IV in the restroom when I fell ill at our reception. Her experience (and general personality) created the safest space for me to share not only my happiness, but also my post-wedding blues and perfectionist/overthinker regrets, which she was always able to validate and reframe in a way that made it easy for me to let go of what didn't go "right." Like when I said I wish we'd done a rehearsal, she said that even people who do rehearsals don't get it right - instant relief. There were SO many moments like that before and after our wedding; never any judgment, only the most comforting support.
I'm so incredibly grateful to have found Jesse & Moira on instagram by chance. It was a peaceful pleasure to be whisked away in their car to the most breathtaking landscapes we've ever stood on. They captured exactly what I hoped for, including my husband & I sharing a celebratory joint after the ceremony; it was such a gift to feel so freely ourselves on that gorgeous day.
I'd get married all over again just to spend another day working with the La Plantes. Since I fell ill by the end of the night, we will absolutely be returning in a few years to do (at least) an alt session under the stars. But despite being barely able to stand upright, we did capture a couple of astral shots on the ski slopes that night that I'll treasure forever.
Seriously, these are the photos I want shown at my funeral so my friends & family never forget how beautiful it was. They captured it all perfectly.
