Contact Leonard Walpot

I'm (still :-)) a young, creative and dedicated wedding photographer. I'm a full-time wedding photographer since 2013 and covered nearly 300 weddings as the main photographer.

My aim is to tell your story and I try to do so by focussing on moments and emotions. In order to accomplish that, my approach is best described as journalistic or documentary. I love being able to be creative and make beautiful photos and I think that pairs well with the basics of my approach: no forced and unnatural posing, but focussing on moments and emotions to capture the beauty of the day and the beauty of your love.

My philosophy is that the pictures of the wedding are not only nice to get a few months after the wedding, but that they will get more and more importance and meaning over the years to come. When people pass, or new generations grow up - I hope that's where my photos really get meaning.

Where are you located? Do you charge a travel fee for weddings not in your location?

I'm located in Utrecht, central Netherlands. I don't charge a travel fee for weddings within the Netherlands and Belgium.

How long have you been in business? How many weddings have you photographed as the main photographer?

I'm a full-time wedding photographer since 2013. Before that I studied Ducht Language and Cultures and graduated as a linguist. After that I worked for an ngo to write funding proposals. Until then, I considered photography mostly as a hobby. At some point however, I got burned out. I had to quit my job and started as a full-time photographer. This soon turned out in a love for and focus on wedding photography. Until now ( august 2021) I photographed around 300 weddings as the main photographer.

Describe your "style" of wedding photography.

I want to be unobtrusive, but yet present. My goal is to create a memory that last's for 30, 40, 50 years - and therefore I want to capture the day the way it unfolds. No standard, forced and unnatural posed images, but true emotions and moments is what I search for. I do not direct in any way, as I am not the 'conductor' of your(!) wedding. Sometimes I explain it as I make a documentary about your wedding, where I strive to shoot the best possible and most beautiful memories for you and for generations to come.

What's the typical wedding coverage package that you offer? What is the price?

I typically start during the getting ready of the bride and stay until the party (roughly until about two hours after the first dance). Pricing starts however from a 6 hour wedding coverage. That package is 1795 euros and extra hours are 150 euros each. This includes a series of edited photos, a small album with 24 images, and a slideshow with my own favorites, which is a nice and short summary of the day.

Do you have a studio where we can meet in-person?

With Dutch couples I tend to meet in my own studio, so I'm able to show a slideshow, albums, etc. But with couples who live further away I always use Google Meet or FaceTime for meetings.

What are your professional degrees, credentials, affiliations? Have you taken any recent educational workshops or classes?

I'm graduated as a linguist, and became a wedding photographer later. So I don't have a professional degree in photography, instead my philosophy is that in wedding photography (or photography in general) one can only learn from the people that inspire you. To me there are a lot of photographers who inspire me a lot. Therefore I'm so glad to say that I took workshops from Jeff Ascough, Damon Pijlman, Two Mann Studios and I am constantly and diligently striving for more knowledge and more inspiration to become a better photographer myself.
