About Kate Pullen:My obsession with storytelling starts with the human spirit. For me it's less about photography and more about getting to know, understand, and appreciate the world and the people in it. I'm energized by the challenge to create photographs that connect people with genuine moments. I believe that spontaneity and truthfulness are the key to capturing emotion. I graduated from Friends World Program of Long Island University in 2000 after studying social justice, environmental conservation, and journalism in the US, East Africa, Central America and the Middle East. After graduating, I worked in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, a place, people, and life I thought I'd never leave. But life's currents brought unexpected blessings that took me to Hatteras Island- an isolated sliver of sand 30 miles off North Carolina, where I met my husband, Daniel. 15 years, 1 photography studio, 2 incredible kids, 3 dogs, 1 fish, and 1 rabbit later, this sandbar has become my magnetic center, a supportive community of salty souls. I am blessed to live, travel, and work in a cooperative creative environment with my husband. My mission as a photographer is to create photographs that inspire and make the world a little brighter.
