Rachel + Zalo + Rocco + Lena

Day in the life sessions don’t come more action packed than this: delicious food, pink keyboards, Harry Potter wands, berets, bicycles, clay, cooking and rock hopping. Keeping up was a challenge (I can say that now that I’m thirty!). From when I arrived the night before to when I left after lunch the next day, Rachel, Zalo, Rocco and Lena were so welcoming and so present with each other. What I love about these long-from documentary family sessions is that it gives everyone time to get comfortable and gives me time to really pay attention to who, not what, I'm photographing. To document Rocco's intensity and interest in the world, Lena's cheeky grin and her soft smile, the way Rachel strokes her children's hair to comfort them, the love Zalo pours into his cooking and into the bellies of his family.  
 
Each day in the life is unlike any other, and each family is unlike any other. It is always the greatest privilege to spend the time and make the photos that will outlast me.
